His Mountain

His Mountain

His mountain was rugged; it reached into the sky,
He didn't give up, didn't ask why,
He kept his eyes on the trail, never stopping to rest;
Running the distance he gave it his best.
He ran the race as far as he could,
Encouraged others as any athlete would.
His body weakened, for his trail was long,
His determination increased, his faith got strong.
With the top of the mountain off in the night,
He wouldn't give up, wouldn't lose sight.
He looked for a way to leave something behind,
To help some other runner, some other time.
When he left us, it was with dignity.
With pride we watched his path end.
He left a legacy of love, this man,
A husband, a father, my friend
